Detection of different insulation material in old cooling devices
A lot of different types of cooling devices come together during the process of recycling electronic scrap. There are not only different cooling agents in the cooling machines but also various insulations in the insulation bodies. Older models are insulated with mineral wool or polystyrene foam.
However, great part is isolated with polyurethane foams (PUR-foams).
In the past, CFC (VFC) R11 was often used as blowing agent. After the application of CFC in such devices had been prohibited alternative blowing agents, which have similar physical features, were used. Nowadays, hydrocarbon (VHC) cyclopentane (also: C-pentane, pentane or CP) is used predominantly.
In order to distinguish clearly the insulation material of old devices URT Umwelt- und Recyclingtechnik GmbH developed a technology which clearly distinguishes cooling devices in three categories regarding the new EN 50574 (CENELEC).
